Description |
This vessel is red on the exterior and black and white on the interior. The interior design covers the entire field. A wide line break occurs just below the rim. The center design is asymmetrical, consisting of five stylized bird feather motifs. The filler is hatched lines and zig zag lines. Fireclouds are present on the exterior. Only the slightest traces of wear are present on the exterior, none present on the interior. This vessel apparently was not used at all or frequently. It may have functioned in rarely performed ceremony or perhaps its design contained special symbolism. Alternatively it may have been a grave offering made especially for burial. Reconstruction has occurred, but not restoration. A nice example of gila polychrome. |
